單字講座 76：dialect (n) / accent (n) / tone (n)

若想認識英國皇室貴族和上流社會所使用的標準英國口音，不妨看看 Netflix 的原創影集《王冠》。演員們為了完美詮釋溫莎王朝皇室成員，還上了正音班呢。但是，小編我，始終認為語言是用來「溝通」的，「積極開口說」和「把話說清楚」遠比練就一口道地的紐約腔或牛津腔來得重要多了。純正的美英口音是錦上添花。話說「口音」是 dialect、accent 還是 tone 呢？下方說分明。


▍dialect (n) 方言
▶ 例 1：老先生用我聽不懂的方言跟我說話。
The old man talked to me in a dialect that I could not understand a word of.

▍accent (n) 口音
▶ 例 1：RP（公認發音）是皇室家族的標準口音。
Received Pronunciation is the standard accent of the Royal Family.

▍tone (n) 語調 / 色調
▶ 例 1：從他生氣的語調，我知道我有麻煩了。
His angry tone of voice told me I was in trouble

▶ 例 2：主要的皮膚色調從最淺到最深共五種。
