單字講座 130:grind (v) / ground (n) (v)

咖啡控看過來!原來磨豆技巧會大大影響咖啡的風味喔。淺焙咖啡豆密度較高,細研磨有助於萃取出咖啡中的芳香物質及水果酸。中焙咖啡豆若採用中等的研磨顆粒,可以平衡咖啡的酸度和苦味。而深焙咖啡豆則適合用較粗的研磨粒度,避免帶出過多的苦味或澀味。話說「研磨」是 grind 還是 ground 呢?下方說分明。

▍grind (v) 磨(光/ 碎);grind – ground -- ground
▶ 例 1:若不用磨豆機,研磨咖啡豆最有效的方法就是使用臼或是調理機。
The most effective method for grinding coffee beans without a grinder is to use a mortar or blender.

▍ground (n) 地面 / 場地 (v) 禁足 / 停飛
▶ 例 1:健行步道蓋滿一層微濕的落葉,我腳下的地面踩起來像海綿似的。
The hiking trail was carpeted in a slightly damp layer of fallen leaves and the ground was spongy beneath my feet.

▶ 例 2:媽媽警告我,11 分鐘內我就該到家,不然我將被禁足到天荒地老。
Mom warned me that I had exactly eleven minutes to get home or else I’d be grounded until the next century.
