單字講座 53：comprehensible (adj) / comprehensive (adj)

金廈水域事件鬧得沸沸揚揚。官員宣稱未隱匿這起意外，因為第三人責任險已明確揭露碰撞事實。不少平常以汽機車代步的民眾看了新聞後，忍不住開始歪樓討論起該為自己和自己的愛駒保哪些險，是全險、車體險、第三人責任險，還是強制責任險呢？「全險」的英文究竟是 comprehensive insurance，還是 comprehensible  insurance？實際上，comprehensive 和 comprehensible 這兩個形容詞都是從動詞 comprehend 衍生出來的。而 comprehend 意指「包含」、「了解」。請見下方說明。



▍comprehensible (adj) 可理解的 = understandable
▶ 例 1：在學校，我覺得很挫折，因為沒有半點老師講授的內容是我可以理解的。

▍comprehensive (adj) 全面的 = all-inclusive
▶ 例 1：「全險」和「第三人責任險」是大眾最常購買的汽車保單。
