單字講座 134：hard (adj) (adv) / hardly (adv)

今年春訓，大谷翔平的英文更好了。不但能夠直接與美籍訓練師溝通，媒體提問時也幾乎不需要口譯協助就能給出回應。看來沉浸式學習效果的確好。話說「幾乎不」是 hard 還是 hardly 呢？下方說分明。





▍hard (adj) 困難的 / 硬的 (adv) 用力地 / 努力地
▶ 例 1：不要敲門敲那麼大聲，除非房子著火了。我沒有聽力困難（重聽）。
Don’t knock so loud unless the apartment is on fire. I am not hard of hearing.

▶ 例 2：當硬糖果中的水氣過多，它就會變軟又變黏。
When there is too much moisture in the hard candy, it would turn soft and sticky?

▶ 例 3：拳擊手如此用力地重擊他的對手，以至於他失去意識。
The boxer hit his opponent so hard that he was unconscious.

▶ 例 4：考試考好的關鍵之一就是努力讀書。
One of the keys to doing well on the test is to study hard.

▍hardly (adv) 幾乎不
▶ 例 1：我的喉嚨嚴重腫脹，以致於我幾乎無法吞嚥。
My throat was swollen so badly that I could hardly swallow.
