單字講座 117：glare (n) (v) / glitter (v) / glow (n) (v)

今年元宵月最圓！更特別地是，同場加映，四大行星(土星、金星、木星與火星)由西至東排列，閃耀星空。地上燈火與天上星光交錯，美不勝收。話說「閃耀」是 glare、glitter 還是 glow 呢？下方說分明。




▍glare (v) (n) 怒視 /（發）強光
▶ 例 1：她帶著仇恨怒視著我。我退縮了一下，不敢說話。
She glared at me with hatred, and I backed off, afraid to say anything.

▶ 例 2：據估計，高達百分之十五的車禍是由車頭燈的強光所引發的。
It is estimated that up to 15% of the accidents are caused by glare from the vehicle headlights.

▍glitter (v) 閃爍
▶ 例 1：她小心翼翼地拿下戒指。戒指上的寶石如星星般閃爍。
Carefully she took the ring off, and the gems on it glittered like stars.

▍glow (n) (v)（發）微光
▶ 例 1：落日在屋頂盤旋，在漸漸變暗的天空中投射出一抹橘黃色的微光。
The setting sun hovered over the rooftops, casting a yellowish-orange glow in the darkening sky.

▶ 例 2：雨停了，躲在雲團後的太陽發出了微光。
The rain had stopped and the sun glowed behind a bank of clouds.
