單字講座 157：insist (v) / persist (v) / resist (v)

比爾蓋茲近日接受韓媒採訪，親曝多年來堅持使用三星 Galaxy Z 系列摺疊手機，而而非長年稱霸全球手機銷售榜首的 iPhone。細究理由竟是因為這些手機都是三星集團會長李在鎔贈送的禮物，不用花錢買！話說「堅持」是 insist、persist 還是 resist 呢？下方說分明。




▍insist (v) 堅持
▶ 例 1：雖然我已經告訴她我只是想幫她忙，但是她堅持要付錢給我。
Even though I’d told her I just wanted to help, she insisted on paying me.
= Even though I’d told her I just wanted to help, she insisted that she pay me.
（註）堅持… = insist on N / Ving = insist that S + (should) V原

▍persist (v) 持續 / 堅持
▶ 例1：假如感冒症狀持續超過一星期，請就醫。
If the flu symptoms persist for more than a week, please see a doctor.

▶ 例 2：即便我不願意回答，記者還是堅持提問。
The reporter persisted with his questions, even when I was reluctant to answer.
= The reporter persisted in asking questions, even when I was reluctant to answer.

▍resist (v) 抵（反）抗
▶ 例 1：我無法抵抗現烤麵包的香味。
I can’t resist the delicious smell of the freshly baked bread.
