Of the two books, I prefer "Everyone Is Beautiful." This book discusses the age-old struggle between going with the flow and following your heart. The author challenges us to think about the following questions: Have you ever given up your dreams just because you are worried about what others might think of you? Have you ever copied others’ conducts merely because you think this makes it easier for you to fit into the group? Or have you ever altered your plan simply because of social pressure or your personal anxiety? The author then goes further to caution us that trying hard to be someone we are not is very harmful to our body and mind. Moreover, we can never live a happy life unless we learn to love ourselves and take pride in what makes us unique. To be yourself, you should look at your own advantages rather than focus on your flaws. Besides, you should dig your own potential instead of indulging yourself in negative thoughts. Be brave to step out of your comfort zone, and you will see a brand new world. Being yourself doesn’t mean forgetting your basic manners or being inconsiderate of others. In fact, respecting others and being yourself are founded on the same foundation—courtesy. The more manners you have, the more likely you can live in harmony with yourself as well as people around you.
(評)第二段很可惜,顯然偏題了,記得寫作時一定要依題示寫—說明你選該書的理由。建議以 "I" 起頭,說明 be yourself 對你的重要性,並陳述自己在實踐 "be yourself" 上的體驗,同時點出be yourself 和 respect others 並沒衝突,可同時兼得。

I can totally relate to what Strong says. I used to literally turn myself into a "chameleon," putting in time twenty-four hours a day to try fitting in as well as pleasing the popular crowd. Unknowingly, I evolved an irrational obsession with what everyone thought of how I dressed, who I hung out with, or what music was on my iPod. The worst thing I could have imagined was being disliked. However, as I gradually achieved popularity and became the coolest kid at school, I didn't feel thrilled. Instead, I always sort of wondered: If everyone’s opinion is what matters, then do I ever really have one of my own? And I knew well that losing touch with my authentic self had made me fragile. Since my identity was built on the approval of others, being criticized or rejected by others was a haunting nightmare for me. It took me some time and plenty of serious reflection to figure out who the real me actually is. After that, I decided to make some bold changes and stood up for who I am. By stepping out of my "comfort zone", I see a brand new world and make likeminded friends who dare to be themselves and meanwhile allow me to be myself without judgment. It dawns on me that I need to love and respect myself one hundred percent before I can actually respect and love someone else. Besides, as Strong puts it, being yourself doesn't mean forgetting your basic manners or being inconsiderate of others. In fact, I think respecting others and being ourselves are based on the same foundation — that is, courtesy. The better manners we have, the more likely we can live in harmony with ourselves as well as people around us.
